Who Can Benefit from Yoga?
Yoga has been around for millions of years and despite the fact that yoga is based on body positioning, its true benefits are mental and spiritual stability. That is why students and those that have jobs that are high importance take yoga classes. Restorative yoga would be the kind of yoga used to relax the mind and body. Yoga benefits also include preventing back pain and helping women that have PMS. That shows that yoga does have more than intangible benefits, the body also benefits.
Someone that pursues athletics may use yoga to help not only get ready mentally for a game, but physically. Yoga can make someone more flexible and can stop an athlete from getting hurt. Yoga also helps define muscle tone. Another example of someone that may use yoga is a television star or singer.
The fact that people can use yoga to meditate is also one of the yoga benefits. There are several different ways to use one’s body in order to get the full benefits of yoga. On the website yogajournal.com, there is discussion on not only the positives of yoga, but also ways to make yoga more comfortable for people that are just starting. Examples of beginner yoga standing poses include the downward facing dog, the extended side angle pose, the garland pose, the pyramid pose, and the mountain pose. Sitting poses for beginners include the cobbler’s pose, the easy pose, the Half Lord of the Fishes pose, and the head to knee pose. Even though the poses are for yoga neophytes that does not mean that, they are not effective. Advanced poses include Bird of Paradise, the Revolved Half-moon pose, and the Little Thunderbolt pose.
For the most part people practice yoga in a classroom and many times people pay to take classes because it is worth it for the peace of mind. Another one of the yoga benefits is that it teaches discipline; there are yoga experts that say that yoga should be treated as if it is a job. In other words, even if someone does not feel like going to the yoga mat on a given day, they should force themselves to. There should be a determination to complete one’s yoga practices for the day if you have already signed up for a class. With that, said yoga experts say that one should not try to over-exert themselves in order to “compete” with fellow yoga students/followers.
The history of yoga dates back thousands of years and it goes back to India. Yoga is actually one of the six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy. It is a major part of several religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Within the Hindu philosophy, there are several branches of yoga, including Raja, Karma, Jnana, Bhakti, and Hatha yoga. The form of yoga that is closest to the one that most people are familiar with is the Hatha yoga, which is a form of exercise.
