What I Think About Christian Dating

by

Dating in general is kind of a scary subject when you think of all the wacko setup dates you went on when you were getting your social feet wet, and all the ups and downs of trying to interact with someone you know absolutely nothing about by conducting what you hope is an intelligent sounding conversation. I guess Christian dating would be about the same, except you are starting on the same foot religiously—-so that in itself gives you a common topic of conversation.

But, it could still go downhill from there. I guess I just have a negative take on dating in general, whether it be Christian dating, Jewish dating, or who-cares-what-your-religion-is dating. Once you meet each other and you get over the physical shock of what each other looks like (if it is far removed from what you expected); you are essentially in a blind date kind of a situation and the inner dread in your gut is still there big time, whether you know his/her religion or not.

So, if you have many of the qualities that most seekers of romance or friendship share that frequent these dating sites, and you have not had much luck on your own finding someone who is compatible; then you probably have a rather low self esteem and are very nervous about putting yourself on display for all prospective takers to bid on. Even on the Christian dating sites, or any religious based site for that matter; the fear factor is still there, it’s just that you have already mastered one of the bigger hurdles in the mate search, and that is compatible religion. You and any potential mate material have a common leg to stand on to start.

But when you think about it, if you are a Christian and most people you’ve known who were practicing Christians were pretty much okay people (a few loose cannons here and there)—-then it makes sense, if society is pushing you to find a mate; to go to a Christian dating site to find one. That way there is a little common ground so you are not totally out in the cold with something to talk about.

Personally, I have never used a Christian dating site; even though I was raised as a Christian and still am a practicing one: but I wonder just what type of people would use a site like that. Most of the folks that were my age in the church I grew up in were kind of dorky people with not much pizazz nor flair for living outside the box. I always felt a little out of place because I wanted action—-a faster lifestyle and more flash—-the reason I moved to the big city. I wonder if these religious sites attract more of the low key type of individual.

Whenever I think of a Christian dating site, I think of a site populated by folks of two extremes: the first being folks who are basically good people with strong moral standards, ones who have never broken the law or even gotten a parking ticket: and then the flip side would be those folks who are radical in their beliefs, very opinionated and domineering, and almost cult like in their thinking. You still have to be wary of who it is you are dealing with on these sites even though it is touting a Christian label.

Keep in mind also that many businesses use a religious moniker when touting their business so it will strike a chord in the mind of the potential customer. When one sees that the business is a Christian dating service, or a Christian gas station, or a Christian electrical service—-doesn’t mean they are any more conscientious or moral than the next guy—-they are using that to make you think that so you will do business with them. Remember that when you search the Christian dating service sites—-yes, they are bringing together people of like religious beliefs, but they can’t guarantee that everyone registered on the site is a good guy. Browse the Internet on the subject and check out all the sites available to you before you make a decision on which one to use.
