Weight Loss Hypnosis

Weight loss hypnosis is a recent integration of hypnosis into promoting health and fitness. Hypnosis has been a technique used since the mid 1800′s yet still is largely not understood in the scientific community or by the general public. Portrayal of hypnotism by Hollywood is largely fictionalized as are stage hypnotists which ply their craft for purposes of entertainment only.

There have been a few studies done on weight loss hypnosis, but not enough to get a solid scientific conclusion on the matter. While some people might benefit due to being open to the extra discipline that hypnosis can bring to support dieters who are serious, there hasn’t been anything to show a strong turnaround for dieters. There doesn’t seem to be any major studies being undertaken any time soon.

There is still an ongoing debate as to whether hypnosis and hypnotic suggestions speak to the conscious mind, the unconscious mind or both. What is known is that hypnotherapy is used to treat everything from eating disorders, smoking cessation, skin conditions such as psoriasis, and pain reduction as a result of cancer or recovery from surgery or burns.

The third factor affecting the interpretation of results is the difficulty in separating the results of hypnosis from that of placebo effect. In short, it is not possible to aver at this time whether success through weight loss hypnosis is in fact from the hypnosis or simply a psychological boost to a patient already on the right track.

The last major variable in the weight loss hypnosis studies are the individuals and their sensitivity to hypnotism. Both Stanford and Harvard have developed a series of tests to indicate how deep of a trance test subjects are immersed and whether the test subjects in the weight loss sessions were brought to the same level of trance isn’t clear.

The question of hypnosis and its effectiveness as a weight loss tool has still yet to be decided, and this is an issue that will probably continue to be debated in the future. Don’t think of weight loss hypnosis as a magic bullet, but if you use it as a supplement to a determined diet plan, it may help you stay true to your goals.
