Ways To Prevent Or Deal With Head Lice The Safe, Natural Way
The scientific classification is, pediculus humanus capitis, but they are better known as head lice. These tiny bugs are to humans, what fleas are to pets, although they can not jump like fleas do. They colonize the hair and scalp of people, feeding on blood they get from the scalp. They are the cause of a lot of itching as well as embarrassment and other negative feeling in the people who are hosting them.
The vast majority of hosts are children from the age of three to the age of twelve, but lice will infest virtually anyone’s hair, if the opportunity comes along. Those opportunities are in the home. When adults are infested, it is almost always because they got it from one of their own children. Head to head contact is the main way new infestations occur. Secondary causes include the sharing of combs, brushes & hats.
Parents sometimes feel a bit uneasy, telling their children to never share brushes, combs or hats with other children. This is because it is contrary to what they teach their kids about the importance of sharing, in general; but it is the single biggest preventative measure that can be taken.
If you were to go to a traditional doctor, she would likely prescribe a product that has insecticide in it, with which to wash your child’s hair. She would tell you the poison is enough to kill the bugs but it would have no harmful effect on your child.
If you question her, and if she is honest, she will tall you that there are some serious side effects that occur in a statistically tiny percentage of cases. She will mention how some people just refuse to follow directions and how certain people are more sensitive to toxins than others are.
The truth is that these poisons can pass through your scalp and get into your bloodstream and they might wreak havoc on your nervous system and brain. People can have seizures and get diseases from using these products, including times when they followed directions. Some people have died from them. What difference does it make that they may not have followed directions?
Lice are not a health threat. They pass on no diseases. And, even if they did, it makes as much sense to kill that fly on your window using a rocket launcher, as it does to put insecticide on your head to kill lice. There are natural solutions that work as well, that pose no danger at all.
First and foremost, using a lice comb, you can capture most of them, placing them in baggies where they will die within 2 days. Two weeks of doing that will often be enough. To be certain you can use essential oils of lavender along with essential oil of geranium as well as eucalyptus. Mix in a couple drops of each with a big dallop of body lotion that is natural and unscented. Mix it into the child’s scalp and comb her hair with a lice comb. In thirty minute you can rinse. You can also mix equal amounts of Nigella Sativa and organic apple cider vinegar. Strain it after 10 minutes. Pour it into hair and do not rinse.
Dealing with pesky critters also known as lice in the hair is not an easy job. You definitely need to have a lice removal technique. Lice shampoo will do the job.
