Using Meditation With A MindSpa To Help With Pain Relief

by

Many people are unaware that meditation, either with a MindSpa Meditation Machine or with more traditional methods, can be an effective way of relieving pain.

Recently, meditation has been medically shown to help with pain relief, even though it’s been used for this purpose for hundreds of years in the East. And, of course, meditation has the advantage that that it has none of the side effects that drugs and medication can bring. When you meditate, your body learns to relax and your mind starts to shift to things other than your pain.

According to a study from the University of Manchester non-meditators have greater pain sensitivity compared to people who meditate on a regular basis. And it’s not just during a meditation session that meditators are less sensitive to pain – this lower pain sensitivity applies at all times.

The study was headed by Dr Chrisopher Brown who would like to see more research into meditation carried out.He says that it seems that meditators anticipate pain less and find pain less unpleasant, but it’s not known why meditation has this effect.

A big benefit of using meditation for help in relieving pain is that it can help people reduce their intake of potentially harmful drugs. Many drugs can have dangerous side-effects and can cause long-tern health damage. Some pain relief drugs can even be addictive.

Meditation tends to reduce the amount of stress hormones released into the body and has been demonstrated to boost the body’s immune system. This will have the effect of improving physical health and reducing the level of pain.

By focusing attention on other things, meditation helps to reduce your feeling of pain and discomfort. When you are at deeper levels of mind, you can use visualisation techniques, such as imagining that you are walking in a park or a wood, to generate positive emotions that will help to diminish the perception of the pain you’re experiencing.

Meditation has also been shown to help you to deal with anxiety. Pain and anxiety often go hand-in-hand – the one feeding from the other. By reducing your stress and helping you to manage your anxiety, meditation can break the pain-anxiety circle resulting in a reduced perception of pain.

If you are suffering from pain, using traditional meditation techniques, or more modern methods such as a MindSpa Meditation Machine, is definitely worth while. As well as helping with your pain, it will also bring a much beter sense of physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
