Using Floral Tools
Florists, just like any other creative trade, have their trade secrets. Among these secrets are flower matching, ribbon matching, display choice, real flowers or silk flowers, real flowers or candy flowers, and so on. The ingredients and tools make all the difference to the floral artist. Floral supplies are the tools by which those masterpieces are made, even if everyone goes about it in their own way.
Florist’s foam, generally is the basic starter for any project. Wet foam is a spongy material designed to both hold water and keep the flowers in place, and comes in a variety of grades, each one slightly different; some are for more delicate flowers than others.
When you are making your arrangement, cut the foam to be a little higher than your box where you are putting your flowers. You also need to keep the foam tight in the container, since the water will make it tend to slip when wet.
Foam is a little difficult to shape, so if you have an unusual container shape, you need to cut it to form. When looking at floral supplies, invest in a craft saw, which easily cuts the foam in the design of your choosing. If you cannot buy a craft saw, you can use a regular kitchen knife or some wire, but you will have to be prepared for all the foam shavings.
But what if you’re using a clear container? That saturated thick foam isn’t the most attractive thing to look at. In that case, a metal frog is a better choice. They are trickier to work with, but come in sizes between a half-inch and eight inches, but ideal in a clear container. To fill up the rest of your vase, fake gemstones and small rocks transform into floral supplies, being careful not to crush the stems.
If you are not using either a vase or box, then you still have other options. You can add a dash of creativity to your flower display by using nontraditional holders, like buckets, glasses, mugs and planter boxes.
When it comes to floral supplies, you have to admit that the most important factor is the flowers themselves. No matter where you buy your flowers, whether that is a grocery store or a florist shop, you can mix and match your flowers to get the best look. You can also find information on what flowers to use for what occasions.
The floral craft is not simple. In fact, it is a trade with many little minute details. The best way to create the best flowers is to know the medium, and to become proficient in the art of floral design.
