Using Feng Shui For Education Makes Sense

Education is a place where innovation is commonly accepted. We have seen fixed rows and rote memorization give way to modular concepts and critical thinking. Perhaps it is time for something like Feng Shui for education to take a turn.
Feng Shui is the art of unifying all the elements of a building or structure. In the past twenty or so years, it has found acceptance in both business and domestic applications. Certainly it is no stranger to home decorating and architectural design. There is already a number of best sellers on method.
While it is well known today, this uniting concept has come into and gone out of fashion over the last couple of decades. It was very common in business not long ago. It was used to soften the stark cubicles of open space designs.
Because of this familiarity in other areas, it would seem quite logical to give it a chance at improving the educational environment as well. If the result of instituting the basic principles were seen as just great decorating that would be fine. It is the result that really counts.
Those who learn this Eastern Art are taught about the quadrants of a structure. They learn about how energy flows through a room or building. They recognize where bottlenecks may occur and how to avoid them. If this is after construction they are taught how to remedy or change problems.
In education the classroom would be set up to encourage the flow of energy around the space. If some aspect of the room were seen as negative, then a way around the negativity would be designed. Perhaps a mirror would be placed to reflect bad luck out the door.
The practice is considered a skill in the West. The East sees it as a way of uniting all aspects of an environment. In either case, the rooms that are treated often feel more comfortable than previously. It would be difficult to differentiate this art form from good home decorating principles.
In the East it is bound up in ritual and ceremony. But here, there are books that give the basics in a quite straightforward list of things to do and things to avoid. Much the way meditation has been packaged for the western mind, this skill has been put into steps rather than a ceremony.
Whether this translation from the mysterious and ceremonial to the step-by-step DIY method will work in education remains to be seen. It certainly should not hurt to have a classroom arranged so that a sense of well-being was felt the moment you walked in. It would be hard to find a reason not to use such a tool.
No doubt, using Feng Shui for education is just the next step in the normal course of events. This is just how things are integrated into our culture. First the business world, then the home front and finally the schools begin to see new concepts as normal. In any case, if it works, it may likely be made welcome.
