Ultralight Fishing, Tackle, Lures, Lines – Sport Fishing At Its Best

October 28, 2009 by

When you have a (too) quiet day of fishing beside the pond, you might well decide to switch to ultralight fishing tackle, lures, lines and hooks if you at least want to catch a few bass! These are of course not intended for larger fish, but they are perfect for catching bass and many types of pan fish. The correct place to use them would be in smaller rivers and ponds.

If you are taking part in a club tournament and find yourself stuck and not catching anything, you should consider trying a finesse lure. Making use of this has given many a despondent angler a new lease of life and helped him to get back in the tournament.

Ultralight fishing is of course any form of angling that mainly make of of very light weight tackle, and is mainly used to catch sport fish. This is certainly not suitable for the big ones, but that is not what it was intended for in the first place.

The name of the game here is often small rods. Now when we speak of small rods, we don’t mean miniatures. Many of these rods rods are close to two meters in length, and although manufactured from light weight material, they are extremely sturdy and able to do the job they were designed for. They very often have most of the same features you will find in the larger rods.

Reels come in all sizes and price ranges, but the one still trusted and preferred by most anglers is the spinning wheel. They are small efficient little beasts that can handle the job they were designed for with ease. Once again as far as features go they don’t have to stand back for their bigger counterparts.

You should make sure that you buy the right fishing line to use with the rod and the reel. If you choose the wrong line it will negatively affect both your casting distance and overall success rate.

Which hooks you use will also largely be determined by the type of fish you are angling for, and the type of reel and rod you are using. Make sure they go together well.

Fishing lures

There are as many types of lures available as there are types of fish. We will summarize a few of the main types below.

*Spinners and spoons. The classic choice. This involves some sort of spinning blade, which either spins on its own, or around a central shaft. This causes vibrations in the water and many fish simply find it irresistible.

*Small jigs. They also come in an assortment of sizes, but all of them manage to imitate various items of prey, including crayfish. This is usually very successful with fish in the sunfish group and thus the right choice if you are after catching pan fish.

*Stick baits, crank baits. They imitate certain types of small bait fish, and you will find that many predatory fish types, like small mouth bass, as well as other kinds of pan fish have a special liking for this variety of bait.

Choosing the correct ultralight fishing, tackle, lures, lines is therefore quite important for the success of your fishing trip, and you should spend some time on planning this properly. If you get this right, you might well end up the winner of that angling competition1
