Trail Running As A Well-recognized Sport And The Shoes Needed To Be Worn For It

by

One popular American pastime that is becoming more and more common is trail running. Trail running is running through paths and areas that generally are not accessible by cars except at trailheads. The typical running trail goes over forests, hills, even mountains. Rough terrain is common.

Generally, races through these trails go between 10 and 50 km. You can have participants who are going up and down thousands of feet of grade. In the mountain areas of the western US, as well as in California, there are many avid trail runners.

There are specially designed shoes for train runners. These shoes have stiffer soles and are more protective and rigid than normal shoes. If you are shopping in the US for trail shoes, look for pairs made by Nike, Salomon, Vasque and North Face.

Trail running shoes are also designed to keep feet as comfortable as possible in difficult circumstances. They will keep your feet drier if the trail is wet, and help you keep traction on slick terrain or ice.

Trail shoes focus on stability. Like all running shoes, the goal is to provide biomechanical protection against injury. Trail runners face acute ankle sprain more so than do other runners, so stability helps to prevent this. Trail shoes are also tested in different conditions and on different surfaces to ensure that stability is maintained. Some surfaces that these shoes will be tested on will include regular track, technical trail, pavement, gravel, fire road, and so on.

Runners need to keep in mind the life span of a pair of shoes. The industry standard is for a pair of shoes to last between 350 and 500 miles. If you figure how much you run per week, you can estimate how often you’ll need to replace the shoes. A runner who averages 20 miles per week, therefore, can expect to be shoe shopping again in 16 to 25 weeks (4 to 6 months).

That is not the only factor though. Other factors that can affect how long your shoes last are your weight, your running style and foot strike, and the surfaces you run on. There’s more wear and tear in trail running. If you get trail shoes, they’re meant to hold up to this and it will make a difference.

For safety, and also for cost effectiveness and longevity of your shoes, it is recommended that you get specifically-designed trail running shoes if you are going to be doing much trail running.
