Tips On Throwing A Simple, Yet Elegant Dinner Party
Throwing a dinner party is enjoyable, however, it calls for quite a bit of planning. When you are planning, make choices that will permit for the party to stay simple enough that you will enjoy it too, and so that you will not become overwhelmed with party details throughout the actual party. With this in mind, keep it elegant. Planning which goes overboard results in the party appearing fussy. Simple elegance produces a more inviting atmosphere to your guests
Begin with the invitations. Send the invitations with about a month’s notice. This will allow enough time for your guests to keep the day clear on their calendar, but not be so far in advance that they will forget about it. Make your invitations elegant by choosing heavy papers that are not excessively busy. Request an RSVP, with a specific date to reply by from your guests so that you will be able to plan appropriately. Upon receipt of RSVPs, the host may want to inquire of any food allergies. Decide on a dress code for your dinner party such as formal, informal or casual, and include this In the invitation. Supply directions if needed.
After this, it is time to design your menu. Plan the menu for portions that allow for the serving of several courses. It may be more elegant to serve a prepared plate to each person, rather than passing dishes around a table to have them serve themselves. Fashioning prepared plates for each piece of the meal also gives the opportunity for the plate to be garnished just as it would by a restaurant. Make use of a guest by asking them to serve wine as you are serving courses.
Set the ambiance in the room. Have lights somewhat dim, yet not too dark that people are unable to clearly see their beautifully prepared dishes. Have your table set ahead of time with simple centerpieces. Play soft, background music. Light candles. Be sure to refrain from lighting candles that are scented. The aroma from these candles competes with that of the dinner being prepared, and the two will not always mix well.
Upon the arrival of your guests, try to be available to greet them. If you are knee deep in cooking dinner, you will not be able to enjoy your guests and your own party. Try to solicit help or prepare ahead of time so that you can converse in a relaxed manner with your guests. Offer drinks and appetizers as guests arrive to prove your an attentive host from the start.
