Compression fitting helps in connecting two different pipes or a pipe to a valve or faucet. These pipes are very convenient to use but you also need to be cautious while using it otherwise it could result in leaks.
Compression fitting consists of three parts which include a cap-shaped compression nut, the compression ring and the compression seat. While doing connection, cap shaped nut and seat are tightened together by which ring is tightly connected to compression nut, seat and the pipe. This way, you can get a strong connection.
The simplest application of a compression fitting is with metal tubing. As the ring is compressed, it squishes down around the tubing. The tubing also gets compressed and like this it makes a strong connection. A compression fitting can also be used on plastic tubing. It helps to stiffen the plastic tubing by putting a metal tubing sleeve into the plastic.
If you want a commercial fitting, you can use copper compression fittings as they are cheaper than solid brass compression fittings. But solid brass compression fittings are durable and are usually selected for doing permanent kind of connection.
Compression fittings can be used for doing any kind of connection like at some places soldering torch or heating devices can not be used to do the connection, but you can use the compression fitting. Also if you want a temporary connection, you can use compression fitting as it can be easily removed.
Such fittings are easily available and are not very expensive. For doing this connection, you don’t need to do any kind of soldering. You just need to tighten the screw. These pipes can withstand high pressure and can also bear harmful gases.
Besides all these advantages there are some disadvantages of using this fitting. Compression fitting is very sensitive to any kind of stress. If the fitting will be disturbed it can cause a leaking in the joints.
Lastly, it is not a good idea to reuse compression fittings as after one time use, they create a connection along their own concentric shape. Due to this, the connection will not be strong as earlier. Therefore it is suggested to replace it with new one.
