Things To Avoid When Trying For Fat Loss

by

It is just as important to now what will not work as what will work when you are looking at the options for achieving fat loss. Here are three things that will not only fail to achieve fat loss for you, but they can be dangerous if continued for too long.

No one likes to count calories every day, but it is important to be aware of your general caloric intake. There are diet programs that recommend eating fewer than 1200 calories a day, which is insufficient to get all the nutrients you need for your body to function well. The recommended intake for men is 2500 calories and 1500 calories for women, so you need to aim for these numbers. Eating too few calories will leave you tired and hungry, lacking in mental alertness and energy, irritable and emotional.

Eating fewer than 1200 calories a day also lowers your blood sugar levels, which makes your body think that food is in short supply (which it is). This forces the body into “starvation mode” to conserve reserves of energy sources, also called fat. To do this, the rate of metabolism is slowed, and so you will not achieve any weight loss. Even worse, when you do resume normal eating, your body will store away extra calories as body fat, in case another food shortage occurs anytime soon.

Following fad or crash diets:- These fancy diets seldom work; in fact, research has shown that 95% of people who go on these diets, quickly put all the weight back on, plus a bit more, after the diet is finished. Talk about counter-productive! Any eating plan that tells you to eat a bizarre amount of any one food, to skip meals or to eat food in strange combination is best avoided. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Sometimes, people do lose weight on fad diets, but there is little or no fat loss. What is lost is water from the body, which can lead to dehydration if continued for too long.

In recent years, there has been much said about low carb, high protein diets. These programs do actually allow you to lose fat, but the theory and science behind them is quite complex and you need the knowledge to be able to continue with the diet safely.

The reason the low carb diets work is, because protein takes longer to digest, the body has to work harder to achieve it. This increase in metabolism helps to burn stored fat. Following these diets for a long time can lead to health problems, and may not be as effective as they were at the start.

So avoid these fat loss strategies and look for safer, more balanced ways to lose weight and fat.
