The Types of Reels And Their Uses
Every fishing kit should contain at least one kind of fishing reel. Fishing reels can make fishing much easier by allowing the fisherman to reach greater depths, fish efficiently and catch larger fish. There isnt only one kind of fishing reel. On the contrary there are many types of reels that can be classified into three main categories of reels. These are casting reels, fly casting reels and bait casting reels.
The Bait Casting Reel is difficult to use reel. This reel pulls the line off the line using the lures weight. The lure is then thrust forward in the motion of casting. Bait casting reels have a device that lays the line evenly across the rotating cylinder that acts like the core of the reel. It is essential that when using a bait casting reel you have a smooth cast to avoid problems like tangling your line.
Another popular kind of reels is the fly fishing reel. Fly fishing reels are generally a bit more expensive from other reels. A fly fishing reel can be for either fresh water or salt water fishing. There are two things to keep an eye out when buying a fly fishing reel. The first thing is to avoid reels that have many plastic parts because they will because they will be susceptible to wear and tear. Also test out the reel and make sure it is responsive to drag.
Spinning reels are another category of reels. Spinning reels are used by beginners because they are much easier to use and have a simple construction. Spinning reels release the line with the push of a button. The line comes out from an opening at the top part of the reel.
Every reel, including the spinning reel, will mount on your rod. Mounting a reel on an open faced spinning rod is a bit more challenging than you think. They come in many sizes to fit your needs. Based on their size they can be classified in regards to what kind of fishing you need to do. Lighter models are goof for pan fish whereas larger ones can be a great help when fishing in open waters. The line capacity on these is greater and is serviceable when you are after trout or even salmon.
Regardless of what kind of reel you choose, select one with a medium speed. If you are going to equip yourself with two reels then get a slow and a high speed one. Another thing you should keep in mind is the weight of the line itself. The lighter the line the smaller the reel you will need. As you can see there are a few types of reels.
