The Obese Child Faces Diabetes in the Future
One serious health problem for the obese child involves the bodys ability to process sugar. Diabetes is occurring in almost epidemic rates in the United States and much of the Western world. Thats because we have heavy kids who are growing into heavy adults.
As the obese child is set up for this health problem quite early, their chances of getting diabetes goes higher. Even among adults, latest trends show diabetes is occurring earlier. There was a time when it was more common among the elderly. Well, not anymore.
When a child is overweight, their bodys systems are overtaxed. A child doesnt just become overweight accidentally. Poor diet and lack of exercise in any combination will contribute to a childhood obesity.
Being heavy per se is not actually the cause of the serious health problems. It is really the overall unhealthy lifestyle. This contributes to a future facing diabetes.
The threat of diabetes is not to be taken lightly. It is a major health risk. However, it can be reversed. More importantly, it can be prevented.
Type I diabetes occurs when the pancreas stops functioning properly. This type of diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes. This isnt a preventable disease because it simply happens when an organ malfunctions.
When it comes to Type II diabetes, prevention is completely possible. Exercise and healthy eating will keep it at bay. Though it has happened, It is extremely rare to develop Type II diabetes among the active, healthy-eaters.
But Type II diabetes can be reversed. With the help of medical intervention, and a change in eating habits reducing simple carbohydrates people have recovered from Type II diabetes.
When adults who have diabetes alter their diets, dramatic changes can take place. They lose weight and lower their blood sugar levels naturally. This can lead to an end to diabetes and they can get off the pills and even the insulin shots.
Note that an obese child may not be showing signs of diabetes – yet the health risk is still there. Diabetes creeps up over a length of time, and it creeps up alongside an unhealthy lifestyle.
Obese children who eat too much simple carbohydrates like flour and sugar, are at particular risk for diabetes later on. Large amounts of glucose are released into their blood stream after they eat all that sugar and carbs. Young bodies are so efficient, that they work overtime to eliminate the excess glucose. This is done by releasing large amounts of insulin.
In a matter of years blood vessels and arteries can be affected by this insulin surge. Insulin resistance is the result.
When insulin-production is affected, the body is no longer able to regulate blood sugar normally. This is when pills or insulin injections are needed.
Obese children need to be guided through major changes in food and exercises habits. If not, they face a future of serious health risks – primarily diabetes. Don’t wait because they are still “just kids”. Their future health as adults depend on this.
