MFT Continuing Education: Detailing the CE Requirements for California

Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) continuing education have had some variations over the past several years in California. Before a California MFT can apply for their license renewal they must obtain the required CE credits, as set forth by the State of California BBS. There may be a courtesy reminder sent out a few months prior to license expiration by the BBS. The certificates of completion must be maintained by the licensed MFT for a period of two years. If the licensed therapist is audited they must produce these certificates as proof of obtaining the necessary MFT CEUS. There are some different requirements for MFTs in CA during the first renewal period as compared to all other subsequent renewals. It is necessary for the licensee to know these differences and obtain the appropriate credits for each renewal period.
