Strategies to Lose 50 Pounds or More

The more weight you have to lose, especially if it is 50 pounds or more, the more daunting the idea of dieting can be. The knowledge that you need to burn fat and get fit may be restricted by the knowledge that doing so will be very hard work. Rest assured, it truly is hard work, but as someone who has lost over 50 pounds, my experience says that it is worth every minute of it.

When you are 50 pounds or more overweight, your task truly is different from the typical dieter who wants to lose 5, 10 or even 20 pounds. It is most likely that obesity has been an issue for you for much longer than others. In any case, losing a large amount and keeping it off will depend on a complete lifestyle change. Start with these three tips.

The first element of weight loss is starting it today. Just as a person who is addicted to alcohol or other substance must do, you must learn to view your diet and fitness program as a day-to-day challenge. Each morning, when you wake up, you only have to stay true for one day, but on this day, you must decide to exercise and eat in a manner conducive to weight loss. When you procrastinate by saying you will start “tomorrow”, you will not get anywhere, because tomorrow is always one day ahead of where you are.

Be reasonable about calorie-intake. When you reduce the amount of calories you consume by too many, your metabolism will slow and you will stop losing weight. Not only this, but recent studies have proven that losing too fast usually results in weight regain because your brain will believe you are starving your body and will adjust your metabolic system accordingly. Don’t let yourself go through the weight rebound. A good rule of thumb is to eat about 1500 calories a day.

Third, keep a record of your food and the calories you consume and write down your exercise times and goals. Your weight loss is a project and it should be treated with the upmost respect. When you look back on your fitness records, you will be able to see how much you have progressed and if you are not progressing, the records may be able to tell you where your problem lies.

My own dieting and exercising experience has taught me that losing over 50 pounds depends on keeping the goal in your mind every moment of every day. Lose 50 pounds and feel great about who you are – not just because you look and feel better, but because you have proven to yourself that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to accomplish.
