Solar Panels And The Environment

June 30, 2010 by

Looking to make changes to your lifestyle in an attempt to save the environment? If so, you may find yourselves considering solar power. It has become one of the most popular and realistic Eco- protection implementations of recent years. If you have seen solar power being used on the roof tops in your neighbourhood then you may have already learnt a bit about it from fellow solar power users themselves. If not, here are a few ways in which solar power helps to save the environment:

It’s renewable – One of the most obvious advantages of solar power is that it relies on an energy resource that will never run out – light from the sun. Solar technology can convert solar power into an endless resource of energy without the need for environment damaging processes such as drilling and mining (needed to retrieve oil and coal).

Offsets greenhouse gases – Unlike fossil fuels solar power technology does not produce any carbon dioxide. This means that there is no harmful CO2 being omitted into the earth’s atmosphere. It is thought that over a period of 20 years using solar panels that a quantity of 6 tonnes of CO2 will be saved from entering the environment.

It can help save the environment anywhere – Solar power can be created through the use of solar panels in various sizes that can be transported around the globe. Solar power is available across the globe during any hours of sunlight. Once solar technology is installed solar power can be installed anywhere it is needed and unlike wind turbines solar panels are unobtrusive and rarely cause controversy.

Although solar energy is highly beneficial there are still a couple of concerns that are raised by potential solar power users; set-up costs and the initial manufacturing impact on environment. Whilst the manufacture of solar panel is not as green as the use of the panels themselves, manufacturers are always trying to make them more eco-friendly to produce. Whilst the more people who begin using solar panels the cheaper the technology will become.
