Should You See A Chiropractor For Sports Injuries?

by

Time and time again both amateur and professional athletes are relegated to the sidelines because of injuries that could have been prevented. Sometimes these injuries do not respond to normal treatment, and sometimes athletes continue to train or play through the pain as a way of showing the world or their coaches how tough and dedicated they are to their sport.

Unfortunately, this kind of behavior may result in further injury and can very often make whatever was wrong before even harder to cure in the long run. Pain killers may mask the symptoms of an injury, but just like playing through the pain, unless something is done to address the root of the issue before the injury gets worse through overstressing or overuse, permanent damage can be the result.

As much as any health practitioner, a chiropractor is perfect to taking care of sports injuries since the chiropractic approach is to work on the problem, not just the symptom. Chiropractic cannot fix an ankle fracture, but with some additional therapies and training, chiropractic can work to prevent further problems. In the case of a broken ankle, the chiropractor may work on posture and balance.

In this way, chiropractic is more of a preventative health process, and as any athlete or sports player knows, it is far better to prevent an injury in the first place than it is to work on an injury once it has already occurred.

More and more professional athletes are coming out and proclaiming the benefits of chiropractic medicine. From football stars to bodybuilders to runners, it seems like everyone has something to gain from keeping their spines aligned. What is more, chiropractic medicine does not just help to prevent injuries, it can also improve your game. There can be a huge amount of pressure on athletes to perform at higher and higher levels of intensity.

This can occasionally lead to the athlete losing sight of what the game is really about and cause them to turn to harmful and illegal substances to improve their game. This is too dangerous, while chiropractic can improve your results naturally. Chiropractic is the right therapy to help athletes live up to their fully physical potential.

By adjusting ones body before the game, a so-called pre-game tune up as it were, the athlete will be better balanced, have better blood flow, less stress and more energy. The San Francisco 49ers team swore by chiropractics in the 1980s citing it as one of the reasons they managed to win 4 superbowls during that decade.

Working along with other sports therapy techniques, chiropractic is a great treatment for anything from sprains and strains to “tennis elbow” and bursitis. The best part is that it doesn’t use any drugs, chemicals, or surgery to achieve its results.
