How does anyone know when a romantic relationship is over? When things seem a little dull is this a short term glitch or the beginning of a downward spiral?
For a lot of people, its not that the situation is bad, its just not very fulfilling. Or maybe the relationship seems like more of a hassle than it used to be.
I think we all know that relationships evolve over time. The initial excitement and infatuation, if everything is going well, gives over to a deeper and more profound type of love.
However, things dont always go well. Sometimes relationships should end. How does anyone decide?
Consider these tips to help you decide whether or not you want to end your long term relationship.
One definite reason to end a relationship is if your partner is physically abusive. That is as close to a definite rule as youll find.
Beyond that, here are some other factors.
Even if your relationship isnt thrilling right now, do you and you partner honestly like and respect each other? Do you have a common bond of good will to build on?
Are you both willing to make compromises to meet each others needs?
Its unrealistic to expect someone to change, so if your partner has some serious character problems, you may want to consider separating sooner rather than later.
Are you both willing to put some effort into the relationship? To be successful long-term, both partners need to be committed to the relationship.
Do you share plans and ideas for your future together? If you arent envisioning a future together maybe it’s time to consider moving on.
I think the above gives you some idea of what a relationship with no future looks like. Fortunately, most relationships dont need to end. Most are well worth working on.
It is possible to reignite a loving relationship. Most of us just dont know how.
My personal opinion is that the divorce rate would be a lot less if couples sought out good relationship advice when a problem comes up (or even better, if they develop the skills ahead of time to prevent problems).
