Self Hypnosis Techniques – Teach Yourself To Manage Stress

Using self hypnosis techniques you can teach your body to relax and manage stress a little better. Most people do not need a hypnotherapist to learn how to perform self hypnosis. It can be an important tool to use when the kids stress you out, the boss overloads you with work, or your spouse is acting unreasonably.

Meditation and self hypnosis are somewhat alike in technique. You must relax the body which makes the hormones that cause stress weaken and you must concentrate on other things besides what is bothering you. In self hypnosis you create affirmation statements that will help you fight that problem and find solutions. Affirmations will also give you self confidence to help you be successful.

The first thing that needs to be done in using self hypnosis techniques is to choose the affirmation on which you will concentrate. There can be one or a dozen or more, as long as they remain positive. These need to be considered prior to starting self hypnosis so do not pick too many.

The second thing to do is to find a place that is quiet and comfortable where you will not be disturbed. Relax by tensing up a portion of your body then relaxing it. Take one arm and raise it making it tense then let it fall to your side and relax it. Go to the shoulder, then to the neck, then the head and back down the other side. Continue until you feel your body is totally relaxed. Next, you will affirm that you are relaxed by saying something to the affect that you are relaxed and comfortable with every breath. You can do this while tensing and relaxing each body part. Keep affirming that you are relaxed and add in some of your affirmations. Mix them up with more affirmations and relaxation statements.

Continue to do this for about 15 or 20 minutes. If you go a little longer it will not hurt but remember that this is a relaxation technique and try not to fall asleep. It is a good idea to set an alarm or a timer for 20 minutes to be sure they will not fall sound asleep.

You can get recorded affirmations if you are having trouble making your own. There are CD’s out there to purchase or MP3 recordings to download. When it is time for bed just turn them on before you go to sleep. You can find recorded affirmations on just about any subject including stress.

The suggestions go past the consciousness into the subconscious mind where they will take on an aspect of reality. After a few times you might notice that instead of eating the left over cake you reach for an apple instead. It might amaze even you.

It does not cost anything to perform self hypnosis. Within reason, self hypnosis can be a real advantage to set you on a path to success.
