San Antonio is a great place to visit when you only have a few days of vacation and is located almost directly in the middle of the state just to southwest of Austin.. The city is small and many of the sites are in the downtown area. If you want to see historic sites then bus transportation is available to the various missions and other historic buildings. Several are located next door to downtown hotels and are in walking distance.
With its close proximity to Mexico, is considered a cultural gateway to the American Southwest. With its warm Texas weather, Southwestern hospitality, and various tourist attractions, San Antonio makes a great tourist destination.Along with our major shopping areas, there are also factory outlet centers in nearby New Braunfels and San Marcos. They are about 30 minutes away if you have a rental car. Downtown San Antonio, for example, is popular among tourists, but is also home to urbanites who work here. San Antonio’s downtown is largely intact, thanks to passionate residents and city planners, and you will see many beautiful buildings as you explore. Always remember the city borders a desert and the weather can get really hot. The middle of summer means temperatures of around 100 and humid so bring sun screen and a hat. If you grow tired of the missions and historic sites, more modern attractions such as Sea World and Fiesta Texas are located on the north side of town about 15-20 minutes from any downtown hotel. Of course both have hotels down the street so you would have no reason to even venture down town. Both have a pool area to cool off in as wel as rides and other attractions. Schlitterbahn Waterpark is about 45 minutes north and is one of the most amazing water attractions in the country. Bring your swim suit because you will get wet.
