Rings Are Not Just For Weddings And Engagements

July 20, 2010 by

Some people think that rings are only for very special occasions such as weddings. Yet, a quality ring can serve as a great and thoughtful gift for all kind of occasions. It is common for most people to struggle when selecting a gift. A beautiful ring can serve as an easy and effective way to make a great impact on the recipient. After all, people rarely receive rings, and this will help make your gift of a ring all the more special.

One of the reasons that a ring is such a great gift is that it is unexpected. People have become accustomed to only receiving rings to mark a handful of special occasions. By giving a gift for an occasion other than a wedding or engagement, for example, one benefits from the element of surprise. Since people are less likely to expect a ring as a gift, giving them a ring will make the present stand out. One should never underestimate the effectiveness of surprise when giving a gift of any sort. Think back to your own life for a moment. The gifts that surprised you may stand out much more than the one’s that did not surprise you.

Rings also make great gifts due to the fact that they are durable and lasting. In general, people keep rings for the rest of their lives, meaning that your gift of a ring will have weight and permanence. Contrast this fact against the idea of giving someone a gift certificate. Most people will not even remember what they bought with a gift certificate five months later, much less five years later. A ring is completely the opposite, as a quality ring will last more than a lifetime. In this way, the gift of a ring will be remembered forever.

Rings are usually made out of metal, and this means they are tough and will last. This element of durability and permanence helps elevate their real and perceived value. Few items that we give as gifts these days have the ability to stand the test of time. Commonly, our gifts become out of day shortly after the box is opened. Yet, a ring is a gift that will last the wearer and gift receiver for a lifetime. You may not remember what you did with a gift certificate you received from your Uncle Dave three years ago, but you would remember receiving a ring as a gift!

It is also common for rings to use precious metal; gold and silver are two good examples. Rings, as a result, are instantly perceived as having greater value and will be more appreciated, usually instantly. The simple fact that humans are such visual creatures is another factor, as we are visually drawn to the shiny gold, silver and other precious metals. Seeing metal worked into even a simple band is enough to spark people’s appreciation of the craftsmanship and effort that went into the construction of the ring. All of these factors combine to help make a ring a simply wonderful gift.
