Rifle Scopes Are Needed For Accuracy
If you have ever been hunting and had a view of some game too far away to take a shot, you KNOW the importance of hunting optics. You have to realize that a rifle or shotgun has a specific range of accuracy. When using an open sight, your eyesight and the size of your quarry can diminish that range. Using a rifle scope eliminates that and brings the target closer to you.
How much closer depends on the power of the rifle scope used. The power of the scope is expressed two numbers followed by an “X”. These numbers define how much larger the target will appear. For example, a rifle scope with a power of 3X-9X will make your target three times larger than with the naked eye at the lowest (3X) setting. At the highest (9X) setting, that same target will be nine times as large as your naked eye sees it.
If you think about the increase in hunting success this might bring, you need to only take the case of a deer that is magnified with a 5X setting, when 150 yards away. It can make the difference in a target of 2 inches high versus one that appears 10 inches high, but this is just one example. To increase your hunting success rate even further, there are settings on all rifle scopes to bring your target into focus, as well.
Rifle scopes are capable of increasing your ability to go undetected by your prey because you can be over 300 yards away and have more time to focus, adjust, get the prey in target range and gently squeeze the trigger. Not only will your accuracy improve, but you will have adequate time to make shots, without spooking the animal.
The lenses of hunting scopes have a crosshair to help you find the spot. Sort of like “X” marks the spot, in a way. That crosshair is called a reticle and every scope has one. Some reticles have dots or marks along them called mil dots. Each mil dot measures distance and can be used to allow for variables like wind, bullet drop or elevation. Usually, each mil dot represents a half inch at 100 yards.
If you want to enjoy the benefits of becoming a better hunter through improved accuracy and the stealth advantage you get from longer distance shots, red dot scopes are the easiest way to do it. Whether you are a shooting competitor pursuing prize money or a hunter that wants to put some deer meat in the freezer, your success rate will increase with this advantage.
Rifle scopes are a simple piece of shooting equipment that is a necessary addition to your weapon. Like a quality strap, a case or the right bullets, hunting optics are the way to make every shot count. Especially the ones that you didn’t think you ever could.
