Your wedding is a major life event. As exciting as it is to get married, planning the wedding is incredibly stressful.
Many brides crack under the stress and go Bridezilla. If you think about it, they are in way over their heads. Most have little to no event planning experience, and yet they expect to be able to plan a large event that is important to them. Avoid that stressful scenario, get some help with your wedding.
Since it is one day, and you will perhaps only have one wedding, you want to do it right. There are no do-overs.
You aren’t an event planner! Would you be comfortable stepping in if you were asked to play goalie in a professional soccer match? Probably not, assuming that you aren’t a professional soccer player! If you are having a wedding with more than 50 guests, this is a large scale event.
Unless you are already an event planner, don’t try to plan your wedding yourself. Why teach yourself an entire professional field, only for one day’s worth of work? Instead, it’s wise to ask for help. This doesn’t mean you are a failure, or can’t handle it. It means you are smart enough to know when getting some help can make a difference.
Your family Family members may offer to do the planning and arrangements. You don’t want this. It should be the role of your family to enjoy your wedding and celebrate your new union, not to scramble around wondering where the caterer is and fussing over the flowers.
Often the mother of the bride, or even the mother of the groom, offer to plan the wedding. Again, not a good idea.
If your mother or future mother-in-law plans your wedding, the event will probably just be a shadow of her own. Either she will reproduce the wedding she had back when, or she’ll do up your wedding as she wishes she had been able to do her own if her own wedding was disappointing. Either way, you’ll be giving up nearly all control, and may not get a wedding that suits your desires or personality.
Professional Wedding Planner You would hire a professional to fix the plumbing in your house, to take care of the health of your pets, to dry clean your clothing, and so on. Why would you skimp and not hire a professional when it comes to the most important day of your life? A professional planner has experience with weddings, and will make sure that your needs are met.
