June 19, 2010 by

Dumbells or free weights are used to toughen upper arm muscles. They are usually sold as a pair, one for each hand. Some are even have colourful designs to attract the feminine market.

There are two types of dumbbells to choose from: the fixed weight and the adjustable weights. Fixed usually come in a variety of colors and shapes, some hexagonal, some round, some even triangular. The adjustable are actually tiny versions of the barbell and weights can either be added or taken off. Both have a tendency to roll around and placing them on a dumbell rack may be the only solution to keep them from rolling around the floor.

They usually have two functions: one is to make everything look organized and the second is to hold several dumbbells on it. As dumbbells are round, they have a tendency to roll around the floor when placed there and the racks just prevent accidental tripping.

It not only organizes but is a prevention of injury that may be very serious. Many a time when dumbbells were tripped on and the person fell on their backs. Not storing dumbbells may be considered inefficiency in safety precautions for a fitness center and can open doors for lawsuits.

The simplicity of setting dumbbells aside on a rack is known to save lives. Falling on one’s back after tripping on the rolling equipment and getting a spinal injury is not a great way to lose weight. Anyway, it is definitely cheaper and less painful to tidy up a home gym or a fitness centre.
