Need Money For School?

by

Sometimes it seems like you are locked in a losing situation. You know that you need to get a degree to get ahead in your job or your career, but as a single Mom, you don’t seem to have the resources to do it. Even if you can carve time out of your brutal daily schedule, college costs are at an all time high. Where will you get the extra money to go back to school?

The truth is, while a few rules may have changed to make it easier for Moms to qualify for financial aid, what’s out there is the same stuff that’s been out there for years.

The best source of financial aid for Moms going back to school is the many Federal financial aid programs, chiefly the Pell grants.

Pell grants have been around for a long time and have helped many people of all walks of life get a diploma. The current administration is encouraging Moms to take advantage of this program, but there are other options available.

This application, which can be filled out on line, will put you in the running for nearly all of the Federal programs out there.

One of the keys to success in FAFSA is to file early. Federal funds are awarded based not only on how much you need, but on your order in the queue to get those Federal funds. Early filers have a greater chance of getting their full award than late comers, whose application is processed when the available funds are starting to dwindle. Don’t depend solely on the government. The private sector can be tapped to help fill the gap in your educational needs before you need to turn to student loans.

Options for additional financial aid can be acquired through your school’s financial aid office. They have applications for many local and school based scholarships that can help you make it through to graduation. You can always check with your local financial aid office and they will be able to give you a list of scholarships you can see if you qualify for.
