A roof that is affected by roof leaks needs immediate attention. Underestimating the intensity of roof leaks may prove costly for the overall roof structure. Look out for the symptoms of roof leaks in the form of water spots on the walls or ceilings. In order to fix such leaks, you need to locate the exact source of such leaks.
The most obvious place to locate a roof leak is directly above the leak spot on the wall or the ceiling. Inspect the fixtures lying around the leak area to determine any fault.
Examine the inner side of the roof for wetness around open places like chimneys, plumbing vents etc. Detection of such signs indicates faulty flashing as well.
If you do not detect any leaks in these locations then there may be a problem with your roofing material. Remember that the water may move sideways before passing through a joint in the roof. Hence, the area where you locate the moisture mold may not be the actual source of the concerned leak.

Finish off the examination task by ensuring sound state of the roof flashing as well. The corroded or deteriorated flashing must be immediately replaced with a new one.
