In the United States, there are very few activities that are nearly as popular as deer hunting. People hunt all kinds of deer. The rut is when bucks begin to compete with other local bucks for reproductive rights with as many does as possible. The males will fight just for the right to copulate profusely with a certain attractive female. In fact, the battle can be so intense for the doe that sometimes bucks will battle to the death.
Hunters hunt for sport and for food (in the form of deer meat) around the world. You will discover approximately 30 million deer roaming both rural and urban locations all around the United States. Deer were nearly eradicated by over-hunting by 1930, but made a tremendous population comeback after years of successful herd management and improved state & federal hunting regulations.
Deer over-population is a controversy in a lot of locations. Deer often end up being considered a pest by locals. Giant deer populations cause havoc by obliterating farming crops and home gardens.
