For you to convey the message about who you really are, you need to have a good cover letter to show the aspects of personality and convince the recruiters that you are the person that they are looking for in this case.
When you get your chance to be heard, let the person reading about you want to continue doing so. Do not be the guy who just read another resume on the website and tried to ape one out of it. Have clear ideas.
You should plan and write your cover letter knowing that it is good enough to get you hired. It will serve like an advertisement that will get you noticed by the employer.
