How To Use Gravity Boots
The words inversion gravity boots don’t really sound like a viable medical tool, but I assure you they are. For those unfamiliar with inversion therapy, in short it is the act of inverting oneself and hanging, by the feet, ankles, or sometimes knees for a short period of time. It has been proven to aid in a variety of medical issues including back pain. It has existed in some form or another for several centuries, most recently reappearing in the mainstream about 20 years ago. This past year Newcastle University released a study that indicated that people with chronic back pain that participated in inversion therapy on a regular basis had a 70 percent decreased need for surgery and drugs.
Inversion therapy is not just for those with back problems. It has benefits for any individual. Some benefits of participating in inversion therapy include, improved posture, increased flexibility, clearer thinking as a result of better circulation, and stress relief.
The health benefits don’t stop there. Inversion tables and inversion chairs provide at least a semblance of support for the participant. Gravity boots however allow the participant to hang almost completely freely. The boots themselves usually come with ankle supports and some sort of rack. Because of the free nature of the device they can be used to do inverted sit ups and squats in addition to the positive effects that come from merely hanging.
As always it is important to be careful when learning to use a new device such as gravity boots. It may seem obvious but be sure that the bar that you intend to hang from is fastened securely and that it is a few inches more from the floor than your height. It’s also a good idea to wear big comfy socks so that the boots don’t rub your feet and ankles, especially when you’re first getting used to the equipment.
The popular media actually deserves a lot of credit for whatever popularity gravity boots have enjoyed. They’ve appeared in several movies, the most famous of which is probably the American Gigolo. The author of the best-selling novel the Da Vinci Code also praised them, and his protagonist, a very smart PhD was depicted using them when he needed to sort out a particularly difficult problem. Gravity boots increase oxygen and blood flow to the brain which allows users to think more clearly.
Some purchasers may view gravity boots more as an exercise tool rather than as a device for inversion therapy. They are useful in both ways – making it a wise purchase. Price can also play a part in decision making. Gravity boots are available for around $80 whereas inversion tables run about $150.
