How To Heal a Broken Heart

November 21, 2009 by

Unless you have been lucky, you have probably been badly hurt when a relationship ended. Just what is the remedy for a broken heart?

Begin by evaluating whether or not you can somehow restore the relationship. Sometimes in the heat of the situation we can do things we later regret. Perhaps you dumped your other half but now think you were too hasty. Perhaps she or he might be willing to get back with you? If you feel that this is the person you should be with, then it’s worth taking the risk of asking for another chance.

Perhaps you have both been guilty of saying things that you now wish you hadn’t said. Your relationship may have been under a lot of stress, perhaps due to financial or job worries. The consequences can result in you both treating each other unfairly, which leads to a break up. If this is one of the main reasons you broke up, then you should evaluate whether or not you can save your relationship. If you decide that it is worth salvaging, then it may be a good option to go to counselling for advice. It is worth a shot as getting back together with your loved one is a very good remedy for a broken heart.

Sometimes though, a relationship ends and it is final. Right now you may feel that you will never love anyone else, but with time you will get over these feelings of despair. Treat the period after a difficult breakup exactly like you would if that person had died. Let yourself go through a period of mourning, then decide to start moving on.

You need to look after yourself. You can take a holiday, or get away to catch up with family or friends you haven’t seen for a while. Make changes to your daily routine. See this change in your life as a positive thing, an opportunity to go places and do things you would not have done before. With a positive attitude your new life and love could be just around the corner.

For every couple who have been together since they were childhood sweethearts, there are many more who have found their greatest love the second or third time around.
