How To Do Your Own Bathtub Refinishing

With a little planning and a bit of skill with paint, bathtub refinishing can save you a fortune and help your tub look like new again. Often the easiest way to begin is to purchase a refinishing kit in the color that interests you. Always take the time to read through the instructions that are provided in the kit before you begin your project.
To ensure best results, clean the surface well so the new materials will stick properly. Abrasive scouring products and cleaning solutions are usually very helpful in a project such as this. Scrub away any imperfections and allow the surface to dry before you move onto the next step. After the scouring process is complete, you may need to sand the area for smoothness.
Once you are sure that your surface is dry it is important to protect the surrounding area. Lay down some plastic sheeting or cloth material on the floor as well as around the fixtures of the tub to ensure they stay dry and clean. To avoid having the material slip out of place, it is helpful to tape it down.
Before you begin the painting process, be sure that the area you are working with is well ventilated. Always wear a mask while doing a project such as this. You will also want to open a window and turn on a fan to allow for proper airflow going throughout your workspace.
When you are ready, begin with the primer. Apply carefully over the entire surface as evenly as you can. Once the first layer is complete, allow it to dry completely before proceeding to the next layer. Once both layers of primer have been applied and dried you can then begin adding the layers of paint.
Usually primer and paint products dry within twelve to twenty-four hours. However, it is a good idea to allow for up to two days in between applications to ensure the best outcome.
