How To Distinguish Between A Filter, Purifier, Softener and A Conditioner ?

Pure water is very important for a good health. Pure water means, the water which is free from all impurities like suspended particles, chemicals, bacteria, algae, fungi, virus and many other dissolved and harmful components. Hence we should always drink filtered water to protect ourself from these harmful components.

Water filter is a device that is basically used to remove all the particles and sediments from the water. The water filter trap these particles in the filter cartridge and supply us clean and filtered water.
On contrary a water purifier eliminates the invisible contaminants as well. Invisible contaminant includes chemicals, parasites, microorganisms like bacteria, algae, virus etc. Hence, a water purifier eliminates all the impurities left out by a water filter. So, one should prefer a purifier over a filter to have the purest form of water.
For converting hard water into soft, one can use a water softener. Water becomes hard by minerals like calcium and magnesium and it can be softened by using the principle of cation or ion exchange in which ions of minerals causing hardness are interchanged with sodium or potassium ions.
Water conditioner also helps in softening water but the difference lies in the method of their working. It changes the crystallization process of Magnesium and Calcium and hence reduces their corrosiveness. However, this process is not commonly used as the resultant water is not considered safe for drinking.
While taking a new water purifier you should keep in mind four things. The initial cost of your purifier, its ease of installation, how conveniently you can use it and lastly, the ongoing cost of operating the purifier.
One should try to take a purification system which can perform all the tasks and care must be taken so as to achieve the best results.
