Another thing parents will have to deal with is the umbilical cord. Once the umbilical cord is cut there is a small ‘stub’ that is left. The old practice was to cover this by tying a piece of cloth around the baby’s belly button. Nowadays, it’s better to just leave the stub exposed so it dries and falls off faster. Still, it’s important to keep the stub clean by not touching it and wiping it with a little alcohol now and then to keep from infection.
