Going Sport Fishing In Mexico
The oceans off of the Mexican coast are full of a variety of fish species appealing to any kind of fisherman. Fishing is a very popular hobby for anyone visiting and living in Mexico. Swimming in the Mexican waters are fish like Marlin, Wahoo, Tarpon, Snook, and the beautiful Sailfish. The best fish to catch in Mexico are considered by many the best fish to catch in the world.
One of the most popular fish in Mexico for fishermen is the Blue Marlin. This type of Marlin weighs the most and is larger than any of the other kinds. Blue Marlin are hard to bring in as their jump has a high range and they fight hard. The best time to fish for Blue, Black, or Striped Marlin is between September and November with the peak being in October.
The Black Marlin can be hard to distinguish from the Blue Marlin. The stripe on the back of the Black Marlin is much darker than that of the Blue. The Black Marlin is also more aggressive and much harder to reel in. For many fishermen the Black Marlin will fight for many hours, and a lot of the time it wins.
Sailfish can be found all year long, but the fall months seem to be when the bigger sailfish are caught. The Sailfish is a beautiful fish and an excellent jumper, but are proven to be an easier catch than Marlin as they tire out quickly. Fishermen have been successful catching these fish by trolling with lures or live bait, and also kite fishing from boats.
The Wahoo fish can be found off the coast of Mexico during the summer months. They are easy to find either around reefs or further out in the ocean. Tuna, squid, small mackerel, and puffers are some of the prey that the Wahoo feeds on.
If you are looking in lagoons among the snags or out in the open waters you can find a common fish in Central America called Snook. Snook are temperature sensitive as are most fish. The deeper waters are home to the largest of the Snook.
Tarpon can be found year round, but the largest Tarpon are more abundant in June and July. One out of five Tarpons are actually reeled in on average. Tarpon fishing has been said to be one of the most enjoyable experiences for fishing in shallow water due to exciting display the fish gives when shaking the hook.
The oceans off the coast of Mexico is a popular destination for fishermen from all over. A wide variety of fish can be found here all year round giving fishermen challenging, memorable, and unique experiences.
