You will not only see some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet going by your windows, but the most variety of scenic landscapes, as well.
You can do that by booking a journey on the private railway Rovos Rail in South Africa. Whether it is for 2 days or 2 weeks, it will be one of the greatest memories of all your vacations. The trains are vintage models, not replicas, completely restored to mint condition.
The motif of deep glossy wood you will find throughout the train, is a kind of elegance you might find in the finest of hotels. The traditional luxury furniture and decor from a bygone era, creates a mood of rare grandeur and sophistication in the Lounge, Dining and Observation cars.
Do not expect to see any bus style or airplane seating. Settle into a deep comfortable couch or wingtip chair, instead. All Rovos passengers have their own private suite, that comfortably accommodate singles or couples.
Double beds and two twin beds are available in all three options of room accommodations. The entire train is climate controlled, but windows can be opened if you choose fresh air. Every suite has full bathroom facilities, including a shower, but the Royal Suites also offer a vintage Victorian tub. (Bubble bath, anyone?)
You will enjoy 5 star dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the elegant dining car. The dining gong is rung before each meal, which is only served once. If you miss it, there is always room service, available twenty four hours a day. Dinner is formal. Jackets and ties are mandatory.
The carriages are from the 1930′s, restored to full glory, and better. They include the modern conveniences of air conditioning, heating, and have electrical receptacles for hair dryers and and shavers. However, modern technology is only allowed in your room.
No laptops or cell phones should be in the public areas. After all, this is a trip back into time. Cell phone reception is spotty, at best, and no wifi for internet access is provided. This is a vacation designed to break you free, temporarily, of those technological chains that bind you.
The locomotives may vary, from steam to diesel, or even electric. Rovos provides luxury train travel on a level that is not found anywhere else in the world.
