Experience the Rewards of Cardio Interval Training

Before you can understand the benefits of interval training, you need to know what it is and how it works. Cardio interval training involves alternating between moderate and high intensity cardio. It fits into most aerobic activities. If you normally walk, you would jog for more intensity. If you use a stationary bike, all you have to do is increase the speed to increase your heart rate. If you dance, throw in some moves that have you working harder, and the list goes on and on. If you like to lift free weights, you can reap the benefits of cardio interval training by increasing speed and/or weight. This type of workout contributes to more rapid fitness results.

1. Interval training during aerobic exercise increases the metabolic rate and burns fat faster than doing cardio alone. This is due to the heart rate increase followed by a drop in intensity that forces recovery without stopping for a complete rest. If you want to lose weight quickly, cardio interval training will help you do that by burning off the fat much faster than the typical aerobic workout.

2. Increased muscle building. The same concept for fat burning works for muscle building, but it is the recovery period that is most beneficial for building muscle. One way building muscle through doing intervals might be running up and down stairs and then stopping to do some weighted squats. Another way to experience the benefits of cardio interval training for muscle building includes doing several push-ups at a rapid pace and then forcing yourself to do a few very slowly. Raise and lower your body with measured slowness and you will feel ?the burn?.

3. An increase in overall fitness ? It is through interval training that one moves up in fitness. If you are a walker and you want to run a marathon, cardio interval training is the way to get there. It burns fat, builds muscle and helps you fulfill your fitness goals faster than typical aerobic workouts or weight lifting programs alone.

While cardio interval training is a great option for either gender, it is even more highly recommended for women. The female body puts weight on differently due to hormonal and muscular differences. For women, the benefits of cardio interval training include building muscle and gaining a faster metabolism in order to get the weight off and keep it from returning. The more you train in intervals, the longer you will be able to sustain a cardio workout.
