The Lake Fork holds the top rank among the various lakes of Texas. Fishing is the primary business on the lake with millions of visitors coming here annually. Lake Fork fishing provides ample opportunities to catch big fishes.
Lake Fork Creek, Little Caney and Big Caney are the main sources from where this lake gets its inflow. The lake has a pool surface elevation of 123 meters and consists of 27,690 acres. The lake is located in Wood and Rains County between Yantis, Emory, Alba and Quitman in Northeast Texas.
Lake Fork has thirty five of the top fifty “largemouth bass” found in Texas. The largemouth bass is known by different names such as Oswego bass, wide mouth bass, black bass, bigmouth, Florida largemouth, bucket mouth, Florida bass, green trout, green bass, southern largemouth, line sides etc. These fish belong to the species of sunfish family.
Lake Fork also consists of other kinds of fishes like Black and White Crappie, Catfish, Bluegill and Sunfish. Crawfish, Minnows and Shad are the major sources of food for the big fishes.
February to May is the best time to visit the lake for catching bigger sized fishes that weigh around 13 pounds or more. However, this does not mean that the lake goes through a dull moment in the other months.
A license is provided for fishing on the lake and there are certain rules that have to be followed. There is a restriction on the number of fishes which a person can catch. Also, fishes measuring 16 to24 inches cannot be caught and have to be put back into the water.
