Electrical Test Equipments Used By An Electrician

by

Electrical tasks need special attention and care. If not done properly they can harm the person badly. An electrician goes through long classroom training and apprenticeship program to get the proper knowledge of performing the tasks. They also need to clear some exams to get the certificate mentioning that they can do the electrical work. Without proper knowledge no one should try to do electrical work as it could badly affect his/her health.

Installation of wiring, checking the existing connections and solving the fault in them are some of the basic tasks performed by an electrician. For different tasks, electricians need different tools. Here we will study about some of the tools required during testing.

With the help of testers and detectors, the working of a particular circuit or connection could be tested. These tools not only help in letting us know whether current is flowing through the circuit or not but also tell about the fault or defect in the working of that device or connection. With these tools and meter you can check the amount of current carried by a particular wire.

A multimeter combines the features of other meters like ammeters, ohmmeters and voltmeters in one unit. They are extremely handy for troubleshooting. Multimeters come in either analog or digital versions. Digital multimeters are little more expensive and have more features. However, analog meters are better in indicating the fluctuations in current.

To detect the current in a circuit, ammeters are also very useful. While using clamp-on ammeters, you do not need to disconnect the wires, therefore, it can be conveniently used. The basic use of ammeters is to measure the voltage and resistance in any circuit.

A voltage tester is used to determine whether the electrical current is running through a particular circuit or not. This tool is the basic need of an electrician’s toolbox as it helps in working safely and avoiding any risk of serious electrical shock. Receptacle testers help in ensuring that the wiring is correctly grounded or not. A continuity tester is attached to two points to determine whether or not they can create a complete electrical circuit.

Circuit breaker detector finds out that a particular circuit breaker or fuse is attached or connected to which outlet. Using this, an electrician can easily find out the damaged connection. Wire detector is a tool that enables an electrician to determine the wires behind a wall that could not be seen.

Appliance load tester is a meter that helps in determining the amount of amps and watts consumed by any electronic device or connection. Battery tester is used to find out the charging of a particular battery that how much the battery is charged and its life time.
