De-Stress Activities; Golf vs Clay Pigeon Shooting

by

We all need something to take our minds off the stress and hassle of day to day work. If we don’t have some kind of hobby or activity that we enjoy doing to take our minds off things, then wed end up having break downs or who knows what else. Golf and clay pigeon shooting are two of the most popular sports that people take up for this reason.

One clear difference in the two sports is that you need to be fairly fit and agile to play a full round of golf because of the nature of the swing of the club. In order to keep your swing technique consistent you need to have some level of physical fitness, with shooting however, although you do need to be at least a little bit fit and strong to hold the gun up and follow the clay with it, there is less energy and fitness requirement for shooting than golf.

Another big different is the time it takes to complete a round of golf compared to going round a clay pigeon shoot. 18 holes of golf takes around 3 hours but to go round a clay pigeon shoot will only take between 1 and 2 even if you shoot up to 100 clays. So where clay pigeon shooting can be done in a couple of hours you generally have to set aside half of the day to take part of to practice.

Another big difference is that if you wish to properly practice golf, you must become a member of a club and so your practicing environment consists of the same 18 holes every time, limiting the variety of the game. With shooting however, there is an unlimited number ways the targets can be set up even in the same grounds, and the layout of a shooting ground will usually be changed fairly frequently so nobody gets bored. Also, membership fees are usually far cheaper for a shooting ground than for a golf club.

Whichever sport you choose to unwind and relax with, just remember to always try and play for fun rather than competition, otherwise the stress free relaxation that you went there to find will be gone almost completely.

    1. My grandfather used to play golf, never really understood the attraction, but now I really want to try it out. My girlfriend also used to love watching golf on TV. In my opinion; it must be the most boring sport ever to be telvised! (sorry to anyone who does like it, just an opinion) Oh, and if you’re in the audience at a live golf match, do you stay and watch all the players play the same hole or do you follow them round? Where can you sit to see all the action? because surely on a 400-odd yard golf hole you can’t see very much from any one place?
