Christian Principles On Finding Forgiveness Of Cheating Spouses

May 11, 2010 by

One difficult issue to face in a marriage is that of a cheating spouse. In a Christian marriage, cheating is a tall feat to hurdle such that it is not only seen as betrayal to marriage but the religion considers it also as a sin, thus making it difficult to forgive and also to move on. You would know how difficult it is to forgive once you have a cheating spouse.

Don’t be discouraged though, there are things that you can try on for you to see a different side of the story and slowly realize that you can actually forgive your cheating spouse. An aid to that are the following Christian values.

1) Forgiveness. A difficult Christian principle to adhere to in situations involving cheating, this is can easily be understood. It is likely that you are imagining that perfect plot for your revenge already. Forgiveness however works in many ways. You have to forgive not only spouse but yourself as well

Serious soul searching and a lot of hard work must be done to achieve both. And for you to do that, you must make that decision to extend that forgiveness to your spouse for cheating on you and yourself for allowing such situation to happen.

2) Devotedness. In Christian marriages your spouse should come second only to God. Far too often we let the world invade the marital space and get in between us and our spouses. That isn’t the way it was ever meant to be. Forsaking all others wasn’t limited, as most people believe, to other people. It doesn’t exclude some people. Forsaking all others isn’t just about cheating. It’s also about allowing “other” things to come between you and your spouse as much as it is about allowing other people to come between the two of you. Be devoted to your spouse and it won’t take long for your spouse to begin to share your devotion once again.

3) Trust. Finding trust in your spouse after he or she has cheated on you will not be easy. But, God can help you both work through this every step of the way. Lean on God, the Bible, and the support system you have in church to help you learn to trust each other again. It will take a little bit of work on both sides of the coin but the marriage will not survive if it isn’t worked out between the two of you.
