Checklist For An Electrician

January 26, 2010 by

For testing the working ability, service charges and knowledge in the field, you can ask some questions to the electrician you are thinking to hire. Some electrician may not be able to do the work that you want him to do, so for knowing this you need to ask some questions.

Many electricians are field specific means they are able to do certain work efficiently and may not have required knowledge of any other field. Such as some are good in working at commercial field and some do small level work like repairing of damaged home appliances. So while calling an electrician think well and call one who can easily do your work.

One most important thing that an electrician should have is insurance policy and working permission. An electrician may get a health hazard while working, but in this case you will not want to pay for that person and the insurance policy will help both of you. So make sure that you check the insurance policy and workers compensation while hiring an electrician.

Service charges should also be fixed while you are selecting a particular electrician to avoid a hassle at the end. If you are calling an electrician for a small repair process then he adds the cost of his vehicle’s fuel in the service charges and you should be ready to accept that. For bigger works, they work according to hourly rates. It is a good thing to get the best overall price for the job by calling more than one electrician.

You should not purchase the materials that are required for the job yourself. If you think, you can save money in purchasing yourself then you are wrong. It is always better if the electrician will make the purchase because he knows well what he requires and the reasonable price of it.

While performing his task, an electrician may damage some part of your house like wall. But its repairing is not his work and for that you need to call a concerned person. If you will clear in the beginning about the damage that may be caused then you can also decide the charges of the electrician.

In case of small jobs an electrician is usually paid when the job is completed. But for bigger projects, the electrician may ask for a down payment before he goes to start the job and rest after the completion of the job. So it is better to clarify it the beginning rather than arguing later.

If the electrician has to bring helpers to get the work done on a larger job then he may ask for more money. Hence, ask before the job starts so that you won’t be surprised when the job is finished.
