Can You Have A Holiday Even If You Are Deeply In Debt?

December 21, 2009 by

People are now facing the bad side of being in a debt, since the economic crisis has started. It is a very tough thing if you are in a debt. You are constantly under the stress of making repayments, and meeting all the other expenses.

Every one of us is in a debt, the kind may vary; it can be a mortgage, a student loan, or a credit card loan. This is a continuing problem, and you are always making payments of one loan, or another every month. Being in debt always makes things worse. If you are under a large debt, you have to give away a major portion of your monthly income in the repayments of these loans.

So in this kind of tough scenario, it becomes very difficult to decide whether one should go on holiday, or not. People approach such situations in two different ways. The first category suggests that it would be a very stupid decision to go on a holiday when you already have so many expenses. This approach seems very logical. Therefore, it looks like an idiotic thing to go on a holiday, and increase your expenses when you already have to pay so many instalments. It would be wise to spend this money in making the repayments of your loans than spending it on luxury, so you can save yourself from further trouble.

Now the second category of people comes who suggest that it is not at all necessary that if you are deep into debts, then you should eliminate fun from your lives. A holiday may seem like an unnecessary expense in this situation, but maybe it is something that you badly need. Due to the debt burden, you are under too much stress, so a holiday might help you relax and out your worries aside for a while.

Before deciding on going on a holiday, it is necessary to keep some points in mind. It is important that you have a proper debt management plan that you are following and that you have your finances in order. Make sure that you are making your monthly payments on time, and will continue to do so in the future.

The holiday should not in any way compromise your debt paying ability. If you think you can save some amount from your income each month to go on a holiday after some time, then there is no harm in doing that, provided you are making your payments faithfully.

You must not over spend on a holiday; try to keep it as simple as possible. There are always holiday destinations that are cheaper and the airlines, which have low rates; you must choose form them. Try to find a holiday spot in your own country than going abroad, as it would be much cheaper. What you can do more is to get a reservation of a hotel, or a resort that have discounted offers, try not to over spend on holidays.

If you follow these steps and plan carefully, there is no reason why you cannot enjoy a short holiday. The important thing is to know exactly what you can afford, and to stay within those limits.
