Champix mimics or copies the effect of nicotine on the body and reduces both the urge to smoke and withdrawal symptoms. Champix varenicline does not contain nicotine and therefore is not addictive. It has been approved by the FDA for a 12 week period. In some cases, the doctor may recommend a second 12 week treatment to decrease or slim-down the chances of the ex-smoker starting to smoke again.

Champix treatment starts with one 0.5mg tablet, once a day for 3 days. The dosage is then increased to twice a day for next 4 days. After this, the recommended dosage is a 1mg tablet twice a day for 12 weeks. As you can see, the dosages of Champix have been increased gradually. This is to reduce the side effects, such as nausea and unusual dreams.
Champix is taken orally after food with water. You do want to be consistent with the time you take the medicine, so that you’ll remember to take it and because its better to take medicine at the same time of day, each day.
Do speak with your doctor about using Champix varenicline, and about ensuring the appropriate dosage. You need to be extremely upfront about any other medications you are taking and your medical history. Champix should never be taken without consulting with your doctor. The same applies to changing the dosage.
Champix is not for everyone, and is definitely not for adolescents, as well as people, suffering from depression or mental illness. Champix should be used with extreme precaution as people with mental illness or history of suicidal behavior are alerted to NOT use Champix. Similarly, any user that notice unusual changes in their behaviour need to speak to their doctor immediately. Patients with serious kidney diseases may need to use a lower Champix dosage. Pregnant women and women breastfeeding are advised not to use Champix.
