Brief Discussion on Omaha Poker

March 10, 2010 by

Have you been playing poker for quite a long time already? Then you might want to consider playing the Omaha Poker. Omaha poker is the second next popular to Texas Hold’em as one of the poker variants. Nobody knows the exact history of this game, but it was known that Robert Turner first brought it in the casino setting.

Playing Omaha poker is easy, especially when you are already familiar with the Texas hold’em poker. The only difference with Omaha is that the poker player is dealt with four cards. Each player must use the two cards to produce a good card combination from the three community cards. The player will only match their two cards to three cards out of five cards in the center of the table placed by the dealer. It is a bit complicated due to extra cards of the player compare to Texas Hold’em.

Betting is a bit structured and the player at the left side of the dealer is considered to be the small blind and the player to its left is considered to be the big blind. The big blind is the one who sets the minimum bet for each round. Every round of the game is started by making a bet.

As the game tarts, the dealer will give each player four card from his left. In every round, the player has the right to bet, raise, call or fold their cards. Once the bets are all in the pot money, the dealer will start to open the flop which refers to the first three community cards. Players can then make another bet if they have good cards while some can fold if they want.

When everyone was done with their decision on whether to bet, raise or fold, the dealer will then show the fourth card called the turn. Each player may fold, check or raise again depending on the standing of their cards. After another round of bets, the dealer will now show the last and final card called the river. It is the time where final bets are made and placed in the pot money.

The showdown comes next after the betting is done. The player from the left of the dealer will start to show his card combination followed by the next one until everybody is finished. Whoever has the highest value of hand rankings wins the pot money. In such instances where the players fold their cards; the winner does not need to show his card to his opponents. The players then will not know if the winner player used the bluffing strategy.
