Best Back Stretching Equipment

September 8, 2009 by

Back problems seem to be on the rise for whatever reason. Therefore to avoid future back problems and to help ease current ones it is essential to stretch out your back on a regular basis. In order to stretch your back you can just bend over and touch your toes. However his doesn’t get every muscle and is definitely insufficient from those suffering from back problems. There are tools on the market such as inversion tables, inversion chairs and gravity boots that are great for a process called inversion therapy which actually stretches out your whole body. There are less expensive ways of stretching your back.

They come in a variety of shapes and forms. One in particular targets just the lumbar region or the lower back. This region is particularly prone to chronic back pain and notoriously hard to stretch out. This back stretcher is simply a device that you lie on and relax for as little as five minutes a day. It has a flat piece with a curved piece on top – you lie on the curved piece. It also folds up compactly for easy storage and travel.

However, there are more complex devices. There is a device that targets virtually every section of the back or the back in its entirety. Most operate on the assumption that a lot of back pain is caused by the spinal discs being compressed and exerting pressure on the neighboring nerves. Using the back stretchers is supposed to expand the discs and relieve pressure on the nerves. Some of the larger models even have exercise components built in, such as back stretchers that double as abdominal exercise machines. Some require a standing position while others allow the user to sit down or lie down. There’s one that even requires the user to do a back bend – with support of course. Because of all the variation it’s wise to decide what areas you want to target before purchasing a stretcher. Prices vary widely from as little as $21 to $400.

As was stated previously, back stretchers not only treat back problems, but if used regularly can prevent potential future problems. Many participants in exercise programs neglect their back in favor of other more visible muscles. This is not wise. While it’s important to strengthen all your muscles your back is the foundation of your body – and a strong back is essential for overall health. A few minutes of strengthening and stretching your back every week can prevent future pain.

Those especially prone to back problems include those that sit for an extended period of time every day (say in an office) leads a sedentary lifestyle in general and are overweight. But it is also a problem if you only work out your abdominal muscles and neglect your back. This can make your abdominals disproportionately strong and pull your back out of wack.

In conclusion there is a wide variety of back stretchers on the market. In my research none have been shown to have any negative side effects as long as they are used properly. Therefore, please learn how to and remember to stretch your back in some shape or form on a regular basis and it will contribute to you having a long and healthy life.
