The dog which barks unnecessarily is a pain to live with and agony to live next door to. Some dogs bark because their guarding instinct is very strong and they feel it necessary to alert you to every little noise. Some dogs bark because they are nervous and the sound of their own barking gives them confidence . Some bark because they like the reaction it provokes in you and some bark because they have not been taught not to. It is quite normal for a dog to bark if he hears a strong noise during the night. Continuing to bark after an acceptable time is what you want to deter.

In my position as the Health Science lecturer in a college in N.Ireland I lecture in Human Health and Animal Health. The Human Health Diploma course is vocational and entails the students working in Residential homes throughout the year. The Animal Health focuses on the health of animals and also their behavior.

I was listening to the local radio on my way back from college and they had our N.Ireland super Vet answering questions for people who were phoning in about their dogs It was a very interesting program and many of the questions were typical questions that I have heard from dog owners before. The one question that caught my attention was "Why do Dogs Eat grass"? I found this interesting because I was at the time writing an article on "The Pros and cons of natural feeding" and I had been looking into various theories about why dogs eat grass.

At last and eventually I have the honor of reading about a Vet who has brought to light in a local newspaper the perils of throwing a stick for your dog. Did you know that dogs suffer more injuries from chasing and catching sticks as they do from accidents on our great British roads.
