If you are overweight, of course you should lose weight. Unfortunately the hazards to your body of that extra weight you carried around could linger throughout your lifetime.

There are many reasons why so many people today are overweight. But there is a big difference between at the top of a healthy weight scale for an individual and having a soaring BMI.

Losing weight is extremely difficult and requires a great deal of discipline. Use that discipline to avoid becoming overweight to begin with. Develop a healthy lifestyle to keep the pounds from accumulating and you will never have to take them off.

Do Not Purchase Junk Food

Eating habits are usually the culprit in the battle of the bulge, so let’s start with that. The rules pertaining to junk food are very easy to comprehend. Since you cannot eat what you cannot see, don’t buy it. Leave those yummy, fatty, sugary, unhealthy treats on the grocery store shelves where they belong. Buy vegetables and fruit and snack on that. Prepare them when you get them home so that they are easy to eat. Wash the veggies and cut them into bite size pieces and wash the fruit and arrange all to make an attractive and tempting display.

Put a Fruit Bowl on the Table

Eating can be a totally mindless activity and can add hundreds of unwanted calories to your day’s food intake. A pretty bowl that is easy to reach will at least have you mindlessly snacking on foods that are good for you and won’t pack on the pounds.

What you Drink Adds Calories too

There is no liquid as healthy as water. Leave those calorie loaded sodas, juices and smoothies alone and have a refreshing glass of water when you are thirsty. Your body will thank you.

Portion Control

Even healthy foods can blow up your daily calorie intake if you eat too much of them. Mind your portions. If you’re having trouble keeping things in perspective, trade up those serving platters for cake plates. You’d be amazed at the difference.

Get Out and Exercise. Every Day.

Move it in a way that is fun for you so it isn’t a chore and you will keep it up every single day. Try walking the dog, shooting hoops, riding your bike, jumping rope or any combination of them. The exercise you get doesn’t have to involve a cash expenditure on your part. You don’t need a gym membership to be healthy. But, hey, if you like going to the gym, go for it – just don’t be a stranger.
