Air Conditioning Filters – The Importance of Maintaining Them

An air conditioner is a home appliance, system, or mechanism designed to dehumidify and extract heat from an area. Although, an air conditioning unit is comprised of many parts, yet the most significant part of this appliance is air condition filters. The purpose of the air filter is to keep the interior of the air conditioning system clean.

Finding the filters dirty and discolored? Do you want to replace it? Just wait. You can do something else. You can timely clean the filters before it end up in huge electricity bills or even destroying the unit as such. Cleaning them regularly can overcome this problem moreover this will enhance the life of the filters and unit in turn.

Turn off the air conditioning unit while cleaning the filter. Locate the ventilation duct where the filter is positioned. There are two types of air conditioning units depending upon the position of the filters. You can find them both on the walls or at the ceilings.

Open the hatch where your air filter is installed. On the top of the hatch, we find two latches that spin over it. Unscrewing them can take out the hatch. Gently remove the filter by dragging it from the ventilation duct. Well, this is the case when the filter is installed at the ceiling. You do not need to remove the filter in case it is installed on the walls.

The filter must be thoroughly cleaned with the help of a vacuum cleaner. This is done by running the filter on the hose of the vacuum cleaner. Having cleaned the filter in this fashion, we notice the amount of dust that was deposited on it. The very look of the filter has changed from a dusty grey to a bluish and little translucent.

After having cleaned the filter, it must be ensured the there is no dirt or the dust remaining on it. We should place the filter back at its place and screw the latches and the hatch properly.

People often neglect to maintain and clean their air conditioning filters and wonder why their air conditioner always fails after a while or it takes longer and longer to cool their rooms. Don’t make that mistake. Proper maintenance of air conditioning filters can help you save more money in the long run.

Further, one should not neglect the cleaning as this will cause the compressor to fail and it can cause a lot of money to get a replacement.
