Aerobic Step Bench: Intensify Your Routine
Are you getting bored with your aerobic workout? Does it seem less challenging than when you first started? You might be ready to add an aerobic step bench to your routine.
An aerobic step is just a portable bench that measures about 1 foot by 3 feet. You should begin with about a 6-inch height, then increase the height as you need to. Be sure you are choosing a well-balanced, stable step with a non-slippery, textured surface.
In addition to increasing the cardio benefits of your workout, using the aerobic bench tones and strengthens your thighs and butt. Using these large muscle groups takes more energy thus causing more calories to be burned.
For my routine I create a circuit which alternates step moves with other aerobic activities. It’s much less boring and more fun if you add some lively music! There are many DVD’s available to help you come up with a huge variety of routines involving aerobic benches.
Do you have a Nintendo Wii? There are plenty of step aerobic activities available for the Wii. If you use a variety of approaches, you will stay motivated to regularly do your workouts.
An aerobic step should not be used by beginners. When just starting, you need to allow your body to get accustomed to less strenuous activities, then increase the intensity level gradually by adding a step. As you increase the height of your step you increase the intensity of your workout but not as much as jumping rope.
People who have knee or balance problems, and those who are obese, should use extreme caution when attempting to use an aerobic step. If you feel discomfort in any part of your body, or if you feel at all unstable, this is your body’s way of saying, “Don’t do that!
